Quotes and estimates

Find it Finance › Quotes

A quote is the price you put in front of a customer. Once it is sent, it is not edited. You revise it, and the earlier version is kept. An AI-drafted estimate is a different screen, described in AI estimating and price sources.

Writing a quote

  1. Choose + New quote, pick the customer and, if it belongs to one, the project.
  2. Add lines with + Add line. Each line is an item, an allowance or an option, and you can group lines into sections. Materials and labor can sit on their own lines.
  3. An allowance counts toward the total. An option is priced for the customer to choose but is not in the total until they take it.
  4. Set the discount and the tax, then choose Create quote, or Save changes on one you already have.

Sending it

Choose Send for approval. Cedar emails the customer a link to review the quote and approve it online, and texts the same link if the customer has agreed to texts. The customer ticks the options they want and types their full name to approve. Choose Mark as sent instead if you delivered it yourself. Choose Send again to re-send. Quotes are valid for a number of days, 30 by default, and Cedar marks an unaccepted quote as expired after that date.

After the customer answers

  • Mark accepted or Mark declined when you hear back, whichever way it went.
  • Revise (new version) to change a sent quote. The new version is numbered after the first, and the first is kept.
  • Convert to invoice to turn an accepted quote into a draft invoice with the same lines, discounts and tax.
  • Print to print a copy with your logo.
A declined or expired quote cannot be converted. Check its status before you try.
